How to Save the Planet and Earn Money

January 25th, 2010 Get Your Green On No comments

Saving the planet is a goal that every country is trying to partake in, but for that to be accomplished everyone must pitch in to help out in every way possible, even with the help of  of creatures that some may find revolting.

Worm farming is the process by which you raise and feed worms allowing them to cultivate and breed and using their waste as a viable fertilizer source and income as well. Not all worms are suited for this job, there are specific types of worms that you’ll need to get this right. Such worms like red wrigglers, white worms and especially earth worms.

These worms are capable of breaking down organic matter, such as food left overs and turning them into vermicast, or similarly known as worm manure.  This vermicast is so rich in nutrition that they are suitable as fertilizer for your garden and even for crops. Ensuring that your plants and vegetables are all grown with the use of organic fertilizers made specially for you by worms.

That’s great and all, but how can I earn money from this? It’s rather simple, by collecting and harvesting the vermicast you can sell them as dry fertilizer or in liquid form.  You can also sell the worms directly, either to help others start their own worm farm at home, or to sell the worms to fishermen who needs worms as bait. Not only do you help promote the use of safe and effective organic fertilizer with the worms, but you also earn money from them as well.

What are the other benefits of worm farming:

  • Improves soil structure
  • Enriches soil with micro-organisms
  • Enhances plant growth and crop yield
  • Improves root growth and structure
  • Reduces the waste that goes into landfills
  • Low capital investment
  • Reduces bio-waste that can contaminate other recyclables
